About the Authors

Joseph Fielding McConkieJoseph Fielding McConkie has taught the gospel for over 40 years, including 28 years as a professor of ancient scripture at Brigham Young University. Before joining the faculty at BYU, he taught seminary and served as director of the institute of religion at the University of Washington in Seattle.  He served as a missionary in the Scotland Edinburgh Mission and later returned to preside over the mission as the Mission President from 1989-1992. A Prolific writer, he is the author or coauthor of numerous works, including Here We Stand, Gospel Symbolism, Sons and Daughters of God, and the four-volume Doctrinal Commentary of the Book of Mormon.  He and his wife Brenda Kempton McConkie, are the parents of nine children. The family resides in Orem, Utah.
Bruce R. McConkieElder Bruce R. McConkie (July 29, 1915 – April 19, 1985) was a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1972 until his death. Elder McConkie was a member of the First Council of the Seventy of the LDS Church from 1946 until his calling to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. He also served as President of the Southern Australia Mission for three years. 

During his service as a general authority, Elder McConkie published several
doctrinal books and articles and was instrumental in the latest publication
of the LDS Scriptures.

Elder McConkie received a Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor from the University of Utah. He spent his childhood between Monticello, Utah; Salt Lake City; and Ann Arbor, Michigan. He married Amelia Smith  (1916–2005), a daughter of LDS Church President Joseph Fielding Smith.  They are the parents of nine children.
